Create More Than One Character
This sounds a bit backwards, but there's some logic to this strategy. Most World of Warcraft leveling guides will tell you to grind in certain areas of focus on specific instances to gain quick XP. These things can work for you, but true power levelers will create two characters (usually in separate realms) and work on them alternately.
If you spend two days leveling one of your characters, the other should be resting in an inn accumulating rested time. Then you park the first character to rest in an inn while you play the alternative character for two days. This doubles the amount of XP you receive from killing monsters, which increases your leveling speed massively.
Power levelers also have a third specially-created character that usually remains at a low level sitting next to an Auction House to save them traveling time back and forth from questing locations to major cities to sell off loot.
Quest Add-On Software
Carbonite Quest has a free version of its World of Warcraft quest add-on that runs in-game and shows you the zones you need to be in to find the enemies or items you want in order to complete quests. The free version only gives you a colored shadow on the map, which tells you the basic area you should be in. The upgraded version of the download is a lot more precise, which makes your leveling time faster again.
Using a quest add-on to help your leveling efforts means you can easily see any quests that should be completed all in the same zone. This can save you bg amounts of time from running back and forth through a particular area looking for the monsters or items you need to finish quests. You also won't be wasting time running backwards and forwards to cities or towns handing in quests when you know there is still more to do in that same area.
Best Specs
Different character classes have different specs and talent trees that can enhance certain aspects of the damage they can deal out. Try to work out what spec is optimal for the character class you're playing and then build your Talent trees to suit your own character's class and your style of playing.
